Scottsdale police arrested a man on suspicion of aggravated assault and violating a protection order after he was found hiding under a pile of clothes in his ex-girlfriend's closet early Saturday.

Police responded to the Colonial Grand Apartments, 3131 N. 70th St., on reports of a disturbance. Officers found Matthew Valdez, 36, a broken window and the injured female resident of the apartment, police said.

The woman identified Valdez as her ex-boyfriend and reported that he had broken into her apartment through the window.

She told officers that Valdez was hiding in the apartment and that he would fight officers if they approached him, police said.
