A 26-year-old woman convicted of prostitution at least 11 times since 2002 was arrested at a motel Wednesday where police discovered a small child sitting on the floor of the room.

Clarissa Milkey, who was in prison last year on prostitution offenses, was arrested about 9 a.m. on suspicion of prostitution at the El Captain Lodge, 24 N. Pew in Mesa.

Police had observed Milkey walking along the 900 block of West Main Street and making eye contact with motorists. After she was picked up by a man, police followed them to the motel, where they observed him going into the room with her. After police knocked on the door of the room, the man inside, whose name was not available, told police he had paid Milkey $20 for a sexual act, but they both said they had not yet had sexual contact.

The age of the child inside the room and who it belonged to were not immediately available.

Milkey was not charged with any offense involving the child because she did not follow through with any sexual acts, according to Detective Mike Melendez.
