Voter turnout doubles after slow start in Mesa

The first few hours of Election Day attracted few people to the polls, but the Mesa City Clerk's office said the pace picked up in the afternoon.

Early ballots pour in for Mesa election

A total of 4,807 people have turned out to Mesa polling places as of 2 p.m. today, according to Mesa city clerk numbers.

The total votes cast between 10 am. and 2 p.m. more than doubled the amount of votes cast before 10 a.m., which was 2,174.

In addition, more than 33,000 voters have mailed in their ballots since early February.

So far, the most ballots have come from Districts 1 and 5. Here are the numbers for each district, as of 2 p.m.:

District: 1,129

District 2: 858

District 3: 515

District 4: 405

District 5: 1,075

District 6: 825
