Phoenix police say a 6-week-old girl died Monday after she was ejected from her car seat during a street race that ended in a collision in west Phoenix.

The 24-year-old driver of the Ford Mustang that the child was restrained in is listed in critical condition.

Police say the driver is an acquaintance of the baby's mother.

Phoenix police investigators say the driver was racing a Chevy Tahoe Suburban Saturday evening when he lost control and crossed into eastbound traffic before striking a tree and power pole.

Both the Mustang driver and the child were ejected.

The Tahoe is described as dark in color with oversize chrome wheels.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department Violent Crimes Bureau desk at 602-262-6141.
