A registered sex offender who was arrested in January on suspicion of abducting a 6-year-old girl in Maricopa and sexually molesting her hanged himself in his Pinal County jail cell Sunday while awaiting trial.
Authorities said they found George Richard Horner III, 26, hanging in his cell and could not revive him, although he initially had a pulse when he was discovered. Horner was pronounced dead about 3 p.m. He was last seen alive 40 minutes earlier.
Horner was the suspect in a January Amber Alert. Authorities said he took the child from her home and was caught near Coolidge.
