That's the message Mesa residents will see on the side of the city's solid waste trucks riding through town, hoping to bring a simple awareness of how people can avoid property crimes.
The Mesa Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit unveiled the new "Lock it or Lose it" logos at its Superstition Station, 2430 S. Ellsworth Road on Thursday.
There are three different logos that will be on each side of the city's five solid waste trucks for the campaign that show a house with a key or a set of keys, reminding people to lock their car doors, garage doors and the doors to their homes.
Mesa police officer Terri Teten of the crime prevention unit said Thursday that property crimes, such as vehicle burglaries, have seen a slight increase between 2007 to 2008 as the city's population has increased.
"We'll never be able to stop crime completely, but we hope to get the word out there to remind people what to do to prevent it," Teten said. "Every time we hear of these crimes happening, it's for the same reasons. People leave their car doors unlocked, people leave their garages opened or unlocked, and the doors to their homes unlocked."
The new logos were made possible through a state grant awarded by the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority, and cost slightly less than $500 to have printed, according to Teten.
