GPS Traditional Academy - Neely Campus will now officially be called Neely Traditional Academy.

The Gilbert Unified School District governing board approved changing the name Tuesday night.

The school, near Guadalupe and Gilbert roads, opened 1999.

Neely Traditional Academy is the name students and staff usually call their school, so the official name change just puts “practice into law,” said Gilbert superintendent Dave Allison.

Board member Helen Hollands said she agreed with the name change, but didn’t want it to cost the district any money.

Allison assured the board any sign changes or other costs would be done over time and would require board approval.
