SCOTTSDALE - Police say a 22-year-old Scottsdale man died early Tuesday morning when his car left the road and rolled into the desert.

A witness who spotted the accident site called Scottsdale police at about 2 a.m. on New Year's Day to report the crash, which happened on East Rio Verde Drive in northeast Scottsdale near the McDowell Mountain Regional Park.

Scottsdale police say the man was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected. It isn't known if alcohol was a factor.

The victim's name is being withheld until family members can be notified.
