The odds, one in more than 146 million, are against you hitting the jackpot in tonight’s Powerball lottery — a record $340 million.

But in case you do give it a shot, here are some things to know:

• Tickets must be purchased by 7 p.m.

• The last big East Valley winner was Tim Sindel, who lived in Mesa. He hit a $10.3 million jackpot in December and took a $5.6 million lump sum payout. His ticket was bought at Safeway, University Drive and Lindsay Road.

• Powerball has gone 20 drawings without a jackpot win — since August.

• The previous Powerball record was $314.9 million, won in West Virginia on Christmas Day 2002.
