A drug-sniffing Mesa police dog that had been missing for more than 14 hours was found and returned to his handler Wednesday afternoon.
Apollo, a four-year-old black Labrador who works with a Mesa police narcotics unit, was returned to his handler after a man who found him saw his picture during a local TV report, police said.
According to a police report, the man had been driving to work at 5:30 a.m. when he spotted Apollo and picked him up. The man took the dog to work and then brought him to his house at noon. The man then called the Humane Society, which picked Apollo up at 4:30 p.m. The man later saw the dog’s picture on TV and called the station, which notified police, police said.
