First reports were that people were gathering for a fight, but by the time Mesa police arrived at the convenience store Friday the cooler was missing 10 or more 30-packs of beer.

According to a Mesa police summary, a group of about 30 men and women walked into the Circle K at 1154 W. 8th St., at 11:23 p.m., grabbed the beer - valued at $20.90 per 30-pack - vitamin water and chips, and left without paying.

The clerk was unable to provide any suspect or vehicle descriptions because of the overwhelming number of people.

“If five people walked in he couldn’t watch everybody,” said detective Steve Berry, Mesa police spokesman.

Berry said some of the women involved actually paid for some items and apologized for the thieves.
