PHOENIX - Phoenix firefighters are working to free a construction worker who was trapped after thousands of pounds of concrete debris plunged onto the heavy equipment he was operating.

The accident occurred about 4:30 a.m. during demolition of a parking structure at the Civic Plaza construction site in downtown Phoenix.

Police say the trapped 28-year-old man is conscious and talking to rescuers.

He's reportedly stuck from the waist down. Firefighters say he's been injured but is in stable condition.
