A man was shot and killed by a security guard Sunday morning after two men attempted to rob a Phoenix Circle K store.
Police said Daniel Arbizu, 21, and Marcos Martinez, 20, attempted to rob the store, located in the 5800 block of McDowell Road.
But as one man pointed a gun at a 67-year-old security guard, a fist fight broke out between the two men. At the same time, police said Martinez attempted to burglarize the store.
After trying to run away, Arbizu pointed his gun at the security guard and was shot and killed in the parking lot, police said. Also, Martinez was shot in the arm.
During the incident, an off duty police officer working across the street heard the commotion and came over to help. He spotted a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot and detained Martinez and the people inside the car.
Police booked Martinez into jail on suspicion of one count of attempted robbery and one count of first degree murder because of the felony murder rule which holds a person responsible for homicide if someone is killed during the commission of a crime.
Police have not recommended any charges for the security guard.
