A Higley Unified School District bus driver has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student.

Christopher Donofrio, 26, of Gilbert was booked into jail Tuesday on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and indecent exposure, Gilbert police spokesman Lt. Eric Shuhandler said.

Donofrio met the girl, a student at Williams Field High School, while working as a bus driver, police said. Donofrio was communicating with the girl over the Internet on MySpace.com, where he was also talking to other female students, police said.

The girl told police that the assault occurred within the last week at a swimming pool.

Police learned of the incident after a school staff member became aware of it and alerted authorities.

Police said Donofrio had an ongoing relationship with the girl during the last two months.

The case is still under investigation, but there do not appear to be any other victims at this time, police said.

School district spokeswoman Sara Bresnahan said the district could not provide employee information on Donofrio, but is in the process of terminating him because of his involvement with the girl. Bresnahan said the district conducts background checks on employees.
