Gov. Janet Napolitano will announce today whether she will sign the five-bill package that makes up the $6.4 billion state budget.
Senate Minority Leader Jack Brown, R-St. Johns, and John Loredo, D-Phoenix, his House counterpart, said they expect the governor to sign all the measures.
Brown said the package, while not containing some items sought by Napolitano, is a good package. Brown said he anticipates the governor will use her power of line-item veto to strip some provisions from the measures. He said, though, these are so minor as to not have anysignificant effect on the entire deal.
The $6.4 billion budget spends about $380 million more than the state will receive in taxes.
The gap is being filled with one-time federal help and by taking money from other state funds.
