The district and employee groups came to the agreement last week, but the measure still needed final governing board approval.
In May, the Mesa district gave its employees contracts indicating the salary freeze, but including language that salaries could go up or down depending on the final education spending plan approved by the state Legislature.
Gov. Jan Brewer approved the education portion of the state’s budget earlier this month. As of July 29, lawmakers were still working to address the rest of the state’s budget.
Mesa Unified, like other districts around the state, will see a cut to its maintenance and operations budget – which funds salaries and benefits – but made adjustments to maintain salaries, district spokeswoman Kathy Bareiss said earlier this week.
