November 2004
Here are two words, two magic words, that will guarantee you a shopping trip with no crying, no “stay in the cart” battles, and great deals on fresh produce: farmer’s market.
Farmer’s markets are a must-try for you, busy Mom, for so many reasons.
One, freshly grown produce. This means tomatoes that taste – yes, like tomatoes!
Two, great prices. Buying directly from the growers saves you money, and supports these small businesses.
Three, the kids will love it. There are so many interesting products and people, plus it is all outdoors (let’s hear it for using our outside voices)!
Four, it’s educational. Farmer’s markets are a great opportunity for you to teach your kids about how food is grown, and about what kinds of food are grown in our community.
Five, dinner and dessert. Enlist the help of your kids and make a traditional vegetable soup (need a good recipe? Just email me, I’ve got a great one!), a tasty salad, and a fruit pie for dessert.
Six, it’s just the best kind of fun. Shopping outdoors with your kids in our gorgeous November weather for freshly grown produce -- What could be better?
Wishing you fun with your kids and fresh food to cook with,
