Republican candidate Mitt Romney is speaking in Gilbert today and former President Bill Clinton is set to appear in Scottsdale on Monday. He is set to speak in support of his wife, Democrat Hillary Clinton, a senator from New York.

Richardson, the Democrat governor of New Mexico, is scheduled to speak in Phoenix at a town hall-style meeting sponsored by the AFL-CIO on Wednesday.

Richardson is likely to be quizzed on a variety of labor-related issues such as healthcare, retirement security, job development, trade policy and union rights. He also will field questions on the war in Iraq and immigration reform, among other national issues.

His appearance is part of the AFL-CIO’s “Working Families Vote 2008” campaign, which includes a series of meetings among union members and presidential candidates that will culminate with a candidates forum in Chicago on Aug. 7.

More than 400 union members are expected for the event, said spokeswoman Dana Kennedy.

“The enthusiasm for this event has been overwhelming. We even have retired union members from Alaska that heard about it and are coming,” she said.

Here’s the details on the trio of presidential campaign stops:

Today: Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is set to appear at 5:30 p.m. at the Villa Siena wedding reception center, 890 W. Elliot Road, in Gilbert. Tickets are $2,300 each for a VIP reception, and $500 each for general admission. For information, contact Corinne Lavasco at corinne@lavasco.com or (602) 885-6223.
