LAKE HAVASU CITY - Police in Lake Havasu City are asking the City Council to revoke a ban on drinking at London Bridge Beach Park.

Police made the request because enforcing the alcohol ban was complicated by contradictory rules on drinking in the Bridgewater Channel area.

Drinking is now prohibited in all city-owned parks, but allowed in the water, on boats, and in state parks.

"The problem is, with the ordinance the way it is, if somebody is in their boat, they can drink beer. If they go across to London Bridge Beach and step off of their boat, they are in violation," City Councilwoman Cindy Aldridge said. "The problem is, the police department felt pretty silly asking people to go stand in the water to drink their beer."

The proposed ordinance now being considered would allow drinking on the beach but not in any other parts of the city park.
