Scottsdale and Phoenix fire crews helped a woman down the side of the mountain at Pinnacle Peak Park in north Scottsdale today after she suffered a leg injury while hiking early this afternoon.

The 19-year-old woman, who was hiking on the eastern side of the trail at the park, 26802 N. 102nd Way, around 12:30 p.m. when she fell near the half-mile mark, Scottsdale fire spokeswoman Tiffani Nichols said.

Rescuers used specialized equipment including a large basket in the nearly one-hour rescue, Nichols said.

The woman had suffered a cut to her leg, but did not break any bones, Nichols said.

At the woman’s request, she was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Thompson Peak hospital with one of her friends, Nichols said.

Nichols said that hikers should always carry a cell phone, stay on marked trails and have plenty of water.
