Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 21 illegal immigrants Thursday including their suspected smuggler Jose Manuel Flores Rubio, who was working out of a home in Tempe.
Authorities said the group was on its way to Nevada when they were stopped in Wickenburg, after someone tipped off deputies through the illegal immigration hotline.
When Flores was stopped, he said that more illegal immigrants were being held against their will at the Tempe house at 1421 S. Bonarden Lane. Officials then arrested the rest of the people.
The illegal immigrants were booked into Maricopa County’s Fourth Avenue Jail on suspicion of felony charges, including human smuggling and conspiracy to commit human smuggling.
