A 25-year-old Gilbert man accused of walking behind two teenage girls while masturbating was arrested by police Thursday.

A concerned resident contacted police at 4 p.m. and notified authorities that a man was following the teens while they walked near the intersection of Elliot Road and Burk Street, according to Gilbert police Lt. Eric Shuhandler. The female caller said the girls looked like they were 12 or 13 years old, Shuhandler said.

The man, later identified as Derek Langley, entered his vehicle and drove away from the scene, but not before the caller could write down his license plate number.

Police found Langley in the Madera Parc neighborhood less than 45 minutes after the initial call and arrested him for charges of indecent exposure, sexual indecency and possession of marijuana, Shuhandler said.

Langley does not have a criminal history of sexual indecency, according to Shuhandler.

The girls involved in the incident could not be contacted by police by Friday morning.
