A Mesa woman accused of stabbing an 80-year-old man who later died in the hospital pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of aggravated assault.

Maricopa County Attorney’s Office spokesman Michael Scerbo said prosecutors will ask for a four-year prison sentence for Tina Salazar, 22. She is to be sentenced Feb. 22. Salazar is accused of stabbing Jerry Naponelli on July 3 at his east Mesa home.

She told police Naponelli stabbed her first, but she didn’t remember stabbing him.

Naponelli died 15 days later after a series of medical complications and surgeries.
