A Scottsdale police officer riding his motorcycle to work early Sunday morning was struck from behind by a suspected drunken driver.
Then, another minor crash occurred when the patrol cruiser of the police officer responding to the scene was struck from behind by another responding officer about 5 a.m., according to Scottsdale police.
The three officers involved in the collisions were treated at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital for minor injuries and have been released.
Officer James McDonough was waiting at a red light on the corner of Pima and Thomas Roads when police suspect 54-year-old Chandler resident Rosa Toledo ran into the back of his motorcycle with her Ford Escort. She was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after officers arrived on the scene, police said.
The first responding officer, Alex Dyer, stopped at the corner of 86th St. and Thomas Road when he was struck from behind by Officer Nate Mullins’ patrol cruiser.
Officials closed down the area of Thomas Road between Granite Reef and Pima roads for close to four hours.
