A Mesa mother was arrested Thursday on accusations she beat her 10-month-old daughter to death, police said.
Labraiya Huff was found injured and unconscious about 1:15 p.m. Sunday in an apartment in the 2100 block of West Broadway Road after her mother, Shawnte Shuree Jones, 20, called police, said Mesa Sgt. Ruben Quesada.
The baby was pronounced dead at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Quesada said.
An autopsy report indicated the girl died from "blunt force trauma."
Jones was arrested on suspicion of child abuse, dangerous crimes against children and first-degree murder. Quesada said Jones admitted she was frustrated with her daughter's crying. He said the girl weighed only 10 pounds and appeared malnourished. Jones' other child, a 22-month-old, is in Child Protective Service's care.
This is Mesa's sixth slaying this year.
