A piece of the Pima Freeway stretch of Loop 101 will close this weekend in the north East Valley for work on a new interchange at 64th Street.Unlike most weekend closures, one direction will be closed for only part of the weekend.
The freeway's eastbound lanes will close from 56th Street to Scottsdale Road from 10:30 p.m. today to 5 a.m. Monday. Also, the eastbound on-ramps at Tatum Boulevard and 64th Street will close.
The westbound lanes will close from Scottsdale Road to 56th from 5 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday. During that time, the westbound on-ramps at Hayden and Scottsdale roads will close.
Drivers should expect backups. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to exit before the detours to avoid delays.
Other restrictions and closures this weekend:
Westbound Chandler Boulevard is narrowed to one lane from 56th Street to Interstate 10 from 11 p.m. today to 11 p.m. Sunday.
Southbound state Route 51 is narrowed to two lanes from Indian School to Thomas roads from 6 a.m. to noon Sunday.
