The statistics released from 175 different reporting agencies reported an average blood alcohol content level of 0.153 among arrestees, nearly double the legal limit. The legal blood alcohol content limit in Arizona is 0.08.

Police deputies made a total of 730 arrests as of Saturday, of which 278 were for extreme DUI, which is 0.15 or above. Another 74 were underage DUI arrests.

The heightened enforcement began Aug. 17, with task force members hoping to establish a “zero tolerance” approach. Officers set up saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints throughout the state and implemented youth alcohol enforcement.

Other violations with high totals included 41 DUI drug citations, 98 seat belt citations with 98, and 136 underage consumption citations.
