A 54-year-old Mesa man was sentenced Wednesday to five years in federal prison for receiving child pornography he purchased over the Internet from an undercover U.S. postal inspector.

Charles Brown, who pleaded guilty to one count of receiving child pornography in March, was sentenced in U.S. District Court and also will be placed on lifetime probation, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Brown, who was charged with the offense in May 2008, responded to an advertisement offering child pornography videos that had been placed on the Internet by the undercover postal inspector, according to the Department of Justice.

After Brown selected and paid for a video, postal inspectors obtained a search warrant, and the day it was delivered, his home was searched and authorities found additional child pornography on his computer.

Brown's case was executed as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
