Hospital workers’ suspicions about the serious injuries suffered by a 2-month-old boy led to the arrest of the infant’s father, Tempe police said.

Louis Anthony Quinones, 21, was taken into custody Sunday on suspicion of child abuse, and booked into jail.

According to police, Quinones admitted to shaking his son the day before because he was frustrated by the infant’s crying.

The boy remains in serious but stable condition at a local hospital, police said. A preliminary medical examination revealed his injuries included a fractured skull and seven broken ribs, two of which may have been fractured earlier.

On Sunday afternoon, the mother noticed the child was having difficulty eating, and then took her son to a local hospital.

A hospital staffer suspected abuse caused the injuries and called police.

Police then contacted Quinones at the family’s residence, 3729 S. Mill Ave.
