Student pilot who died in crash identified

Authorities have identified the pilot in training in Friday's plane crash as Sam Pudney from Casper, Wyo.

Name of pilot in Pinal plane crash released

2 pilots dead in crash of small plane near Q.C.

Pinal County sheriff's spokesman Mike Minter said he doesn't know Pudney's age.

Pudney was flying with pilot-in-command James Clapper, 57, of Scottsdale in an Extra 300L model aircraft when the plane crashed into the desert about eight miles east of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. It's still unknown what caused the plane to go down.
