Chandler police are investigating a collision that injured a veteran Tempe police officer after his motorcycle collided with a car near a busy intersection Tuesday.
Tempe Police Officer Jim Quill, an 18-year veteran, was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital after his motorcycle struck the front passenger side of a Mercedes-Benz that entered the southbound lane of McClintock Drive north of Ray Road at 5:28 p.m., according to Chandler police Detective Dave Ramer.
Ramer said Quill was traveling southbound on McClintock when the driver of the Mercedes entered his lane and Quill struck the side of the vehicle, Ramer said.
Quill was on his way home when the crash happened, Ramer said.
The incident still is under investigation and the driver of the Mercedes was cited for an unsafe lane change, according to Ramer.
