Gov. Janet Napolitano nominated three people Thursday to serve on the ninemember board of directors of the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority.

Verma Mendez Pastor, Larry David Landry and Jonathan Garrett will serve on the authority, which was put in place in 2000 to oversee the design, construction and eventual operation of the Arizona Cardinals football stadium. The authority also distributes public funds for youth and amateur sports and promotes Cactus League baseball.

Mendez Pastor is a Phoenix educator and volunteer. She is an education consultant to the Isaac Elementary School District in Phoenix and sits on the boards of Chicanos Por la Causa and Friends of the Phoenix Library.

Landry is a Phoenix management consultant who has served on the Governor’s Commission on Economic Development, the Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board and the Arizona Department of Tourism Director’s Advocacy Group.

Garrett is a Paradise Valley resident and member of the Scottsdale Charros, a civic organization that promotes spring training in Scottsdale through its partnership with the San Francisco Giants. Garrett also owns Cornerstone Consulting Company.

The governor’s spokeswoman, Pati Urias, said Mendez Pastor, Landry and Garrett will come before the state Senate for confirmation sometime after January.
