John Beck is mature enough to know that his maturity should be an asset to the Miami Dolphins. Beck is 25, and some analysts held that against him heading into the 2007 NFL draft before Miami took Beck in the second round, making him the 40th player taken overall.

“Being my age, you know what you have to do. There are certain experiences I’ve had up to this point that have made me who I am," said Beck, a Mountain View High School graduate who interrupted his college career at Brigham Young to serve a two-year mission in Portugal for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

“I’m married, so I won’t be out partying.”

Miami acquired Daunte Culpepper to be their quarterback in 2006, but Culpepper was not completely healed from a knee injury and was unable to hold the position. He remains on the roster.

Joey Harrington started most of the season for the Dolphins but was not tendered a 2007 contract. Fourth-year man Cleo Lemon started the final game of the 2006 season.
