A 60-year-old woman shot and killed herself Wednesday in the parking lot of the Dobson branch of the Mesa Public Library.
Police haven’t released the woman’s name.
Mesa police spokeswoman detective Diana Tapia said the suicide occurred about 11:40 a.m. as the woman and her son, who is in his 20s, were walking toward the library.
"All of a sudden, they are getting out of the car and the son hears a pop," Tapia said.
Police said the woman used a handgun in the suicide, but they don’t yet know why she killed herself.
The library is on Dobson Road, south of Baseline Road and is next to the Mesa police Dobson Substation.
