Prosecutors announced Wednesday they plan to seek the death penalty against Mesa’s accused serial predator, Trent Benson.

According to court records, Benson already confessed to killing two women, Alisa Beck and Karen Campbell, and raping another during a three-year period that ended with his arrest in May. Benson, 36, is also accused of raping another woman during that time but has not admitted to it.

His attorney could not be reached for comment.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office released a statement late Wednesday saying it would ask for Benson’s execution if he is convicted in the case.

In all, Benson has been charged on suspicion of 10 counts — two murders, four sexual assaults and four kidnappings. He pleaded not guilty to all.
