Phoenix police are searching for a man they believe sexually assaulted two Ahwatukee Foothills women who live within half a mile of each other and who were attacked within an hour of each other Friday morning.

In the first incident, a 30-year-old woman who lives in an apartment in the 9600 block of South 48th Street was awakened by her attacker about 1 a.m., said Phoenix detective Tony Morales.

The man threatened the woman verbally and sexually assaulted her before leaving, Morales said.

An hour later, a man matching the same description forced his way into the apartment of a 20-year-old woman in the 5100 block of East Guadalupe Road and attacked her as she slept, Morales said.

The attacker in each instance was described as being a heavyset white male around 30 years of age with a pot belly, Morales said. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, gray jeans and tennis shoes.

No weapon or vehicle was seen by the victims, Morales said.

Detectives canvassed the neighborhood in the hopes of finding someone who heard or saw something, Morales said.
