Fire investigators are looking into the cause of a blaze that heavily damaged a south Scottsdale home late Monday and forced a family to spend the night with their neighbors across the street.

Scottsdale firefighters battled the blaze about 11 p.m. in the 6800 block of East Latham Street for about a half-hour before bringing it under control. The fire started in the attic area of the single-family home near 68th and Roosevelt streets, according to Tiffani Nichols, spokeswoman for the Scottsdale Fire Department.

At least two people were inside the home when the fire started. Both managed to get out safely and neither was injured, Nichols said.

The home was not totally destroyed, but the roof and attic areas of the home were heavily damaged, Nichols said.

A dollar amount on a damage estimate was not available and a preliminary report on the cause of the fire is pending.
