A Phoenix police officer responding to an emergency call struck a student who was crossing the road near Roosevelt Street and 35th Avenue, according to authorities.

The 15-year-old was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries; police reports said he had several broken bones in his right leg. The officer was also treated for minor injuries caused by broken glass, according to authorities.

Police are conducting an internal investigation as well as a collision investigation, which is standard procedure for officer-involved collisions.

Police said the boy was not in the crosswalk at the time of the collision; his name and the officer’s name were not released.
