PHOENIX - An official says a U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter intercepted a small plane flying near the site of Sunday's Super Bowl game and escorted the pilot to an airport in nearby Buckeye.
Buckeye police spokesman Bob Bushner says the Cessna 172 had left Tucson for Buckeye and the pilot wasn't aware that he had entered the temporary no-fly zone around University of Phoenix stadium in Glendale.
The F-16 was joined by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Blackhawk helicopter.
Bushner says the pilot was questioned after he landed and wasn't cited or arrested.
"I'm sure he was frightened," Bushner said.
Flight restrictions around the Super Bowl have been in place since the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
