Five teenagers were injured, three seriously, when their car lost control and was smashed by another vehicle in Chandler this afternoon.

One person was evacuated by helicopter from the crash site at Arizona Avenue and Warner Road, authorities said. Two others were taken to hospitals by ambulance, and two more suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle refused treatment.

According to fire officials, around 2:15 p.m. a PT Cruiser occupied by the teens was heading eastbound on Warner when it veered into oncoming traffic. The car was then broadsided by a two-door sedan.

The most seriously injured person was partially ejected and suffered head trauma. Another occupant tried walking away but was found near the crash site, authorities said.
