All-Star teams include 6 Mets, 6 White Sox

Four Mets will be among the eight offensive starters at the All-Star game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh on July 11. Six Mets altogether were named to the National League team, while the American League team will have six White Sox players, and four each from the Red Sox and Yankees.

Catcher Paul Lo Duca, shortstop Jose Reyes, third baseman David Wright, and center fielder Carlos Beltran will start for the Mets. Pitchers Tom Glavine and Pedro Martinez were also chosen for the team.

The White Sox will send first basemen Jim Thome and Paul Konerko, outfielder Jermaine Dye, and pitchers Mark Buehrle, Jose Contreras, and Bobby Jenks.

David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez and Mark Loretta will start from the Red Sox, while closer Jonathan Papelbon was also named to the team. From the Yankees, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez will start, while Robinson Cano and Mariano Rivera will also be in Pittsburgh.

Starter Mike Mussina was left off the team.

Other American League starters include catcher Ivan Rodriguez of the Tigers; Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero, and outfielder Ichiro Suzuki of the Mariners.

Other National League starters include first baseman Albert Pujols of the Cardinals; Phillies second baseman Chase Utley; outfielder Jason Bay of the Pirates; and Nationals outfielder Alfonso Soriano.

American League reserves include Twins catcher Joe Mauer; Mariners shortstop Jose Lopez; Rangers second baseman Michael Young; Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada; Blue Jays third baseman Troy Glaus; outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. of the Rangers; outfielder Alex Rios of the Blue Jays; Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore; and Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells.

National League reserves include Braves catcher Brian McCann; Astros first baseman Lance Berkman; Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard; Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla; Braves shortstop Edgar Renteria; Marlins third baseman Miguel Cabrera; Pirates third baseman Freddy Sanchez; Cardinals third baseman Scott Rolen; Braves outfielder Andruw Jones; Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday; and Brewers outfielder Carlos Lee.

The American League pitching staff includes Roy Halladay of the Blue Jays; Scott Kazmir of the Devil Rays; Mark Redman of the Royals; Kenny Rogers of the Tigers; B.J. Ryan of the Blue Jays; Johan Santana of the Twins; and Barry Zito of the Athletics.

The National League pitching staff includes Brandon Webb of the Diamondbacks; Carlos Zambrano of the Cubs; Bronson Arroyo of the Reds; Brian Fuentes of the Rockies; Brad Penny of the Dodgers; Derrick Turnbow of the Brewers; Tom Gordon of the Phillies; Chris Carpenter of the Cardinals; Trevor Hoffman of the Padres; and Jason Schmidt of the Giants.

Notably absent from the American League team: Curt Schilling of the Red Sox, Twins rookie Francisco Liriano, who leads the league in ERA, and Travis Hafner of the Indians.

The National League team does not include the Phillies Bobby Abreu, and batting average leader Nomar Garciaparra.
