The Maricopa County Attorney's Office announced Thursday that a former Chandler Sunday school teacher was sentenced to 35 yearsin prison for sexually molesting children under his care.

Terence Greenwood, 63, also was sentenced to three counts of lifetime probation by Superior Court Judge David K. Udall, County Attorney Andrew Thomas announced.

"This sentence effectively prevents the defendant from harming other young children for the rest of his life," Thomas said.

Greenwood, a former volunteer teacher for a Chandler church, had pleaded guilty to charges related to the sexual molestation of young children who were under his care during Sunday school, according to officials.

Additional instances of abuse occurred at his home, officials said.

In August, Greenwood pleaded guilty to two counts of molestation of a child, dangerous crimes against children and three counts of attempted molestation of a child, according to court records.

He received prison sentences of 18 years and 17 years for the molestation charges.

Deputy county attorney John F. Beatty prosecuted the case.
