A high-speed collision claimed the life of a 20-year-old motorcyclist Wednesday, Scottsdale police said.

Aaron Montague and his girlfriend were driving west around 100 mph on Shea Boulevard near 130th Street on Tuesday when their motorcycle struck the right rear of a Toyota, Scottsdale authorities said.

Police reports said the pair were thrown from the motorcycle, which skidded about 400 feet and burst into flames.

Montague was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital with head injuries . He died at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

His 18-year-old girlfriend suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, including a shoulder injury and severe road rash. The driver of the Toyota was not injured, police said.

Investigators believe Montague was under the influence of alcohol.
