FILE - In this Aug. 29, 2012 file photo, Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney speaks at the American Legion National Convention in Indianapolis. When Romney addresses the Republican convention Thursday night, he'll do it from a stage that puts him a little bit closer to the crowd inside the convention hall. His campaign hopes the evening ends with Americans feeling a little bit closer to the Republican presidential candidate, too. (AP Photo/Evan Vucci, File)

Romney's religion makes no difference to me - they're all equally ridiculous and a waste of time to think about.
That said, I don't choose my candidates based on their personal religious beliefs, and I wouldn't vote an atheist into office strictly based on their lack of belief. They'd have to convince me based on other issues that actually matter to public service.

I mostly agree with the above commenter Vog, with one exception:
If a candidate has a firm belief that their particular "higher power" speaks directly to them, and they obey the commands they are given (Remember George W Bush?), I think they should be disqualified. What happens when their "higher power" instructs them to start the "End Times" by launching nukes?

How come you liberal media don't talk about Oblamer's Muslim ties and/or his communist mentor, Frank Mashall Davis? All you can do is attack Romney and his faith--all the while ignoring the fact that Obama spent 20 years with Jeremiah Wright--who preaches destruction to America and the White Race! Where's the due dilligence from the media on that? Hypocrite!

Hmm....makes me think of some great quotes from some great Americans...
"I hold that in this country there must be complete severance of Church and State; that public moneys shall not be used for the purpose of advancing any particular creed; and therefore that the public schools shall be nonsectarian and no public moneys appropriated for sectarian schools." -- Carnegie Hall address, 12 October 1915

@Engaged Voter: Well, one would hope the crazy would reveal itself before they find themselves in the Oval Office, much less the Big Red Button. You have a point, though.
I think a more prudent tack with that question would be to consider the current conflict between Israel/Palestine in light of Iran. I would like to see a candidate, any candidate, who could look at the objective information before them and not be beholden to any particular party for religious reasons.
I can't underscore how much I don't want another war on our hands, especially since one with Iran has the potential to involve more parties, should alliances be called, than our wars with Afghanistan and Iraq.

I find it troubling when someone DOES impose their religious beliefs on the country..Hence.. the abortion issue... no need to go any further...
