Illegal re-entry topped all other charges in U.S. federal courts
The number of apprehensions by border patrol agents has declined
steadily in recent years, both nationally and in the two border
patrol divisions that cover the Arizona border, according to
numbers from the agency.
After a sharp increase, prosecutions for first-time illegal
immigrants fell below the number of prosecutions of people charged
with illegal re-entry — being caught back in the country after
being deported at least once before — according to a review by the
Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse.
