Friday Night Drags take place at Firebird Raceway, plus information about the "biker buildoff" East Meets West Custom Motorcycle Show at Firebird Raceway.

Friday Night Drags is an open-to-the public chance to legally race your car, truck, or SUV. Every Friday evening in the summer between 50 and 60 car owners show up at the track, pay a small fee, get a rundown on the rules and track regulations, and then get to choose who they want to race against on the quarter-mile track with five staging lanes. The average driver who comes early, can get in between six and fifteen drag races a night. For the drag race enthusiast the track offers a timing slip at the end of each run with different times at different points on the track.

Safety is not taken lightly at these weekly events. Rescue trucks manned by certified E.M.T..s are always at the track just in case of emergency. Safety is everything to Firebird Raceway. Cars are thoroughly inspected before they are allowed to enter the track and are expected to be street legal. Brakes and tires are inspected, drivers are informed of the rules, all drag racing questions are answered, and then they are off to an evening of legal drag racing.

And is drag racing your friend's car a big hit with drivers both young and old? "It's been a real popular event since we opened." Says Chuck Sunstrom, Racing Director for Friday Night Drags. On winter Friday nights up to 150 cars show up at the track to race.

Every Friday night something pretty unique happens in the world of motoring in the East Valley. Friday Night Drags take place at Firebird Raceway.

Open from around 7pm to 11:30 pm, the track also offers a crowd viewing stand and food concessions. There's even a souvenir shop open on the grounds. Finally, young race car and muscle car fans, and maybe the not-so-young, have a chance to street legal race a quarter mile track complete with Christmas tree starting lights, timing slips, and a souvenir of the event to take home. So if you've ever had the urge to race your neighbor's car, see what your set of wheels will do against another car, or just want to spend a cool fall evening watching other car and truck enthusiasts race, give a call to Firebird Raceway and find out more about their Friday Night Drags at 480-363-7583.
