Chapman Chevrolet celebrates its 40th anniversary March 22nd with a mixer hosted by Tempe Chamber of Commerce followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and on April 8th and 9th, the AHDRA (All Harley Drag Racing Association) comes to Phoenix Firebird Raceway.

If you spent your childhood watching TV shows like Green Acres, Gomer Pyle USMC, or The Jackie Gleason Show, you grew up in the era of a long-time car dealership also getting its start in Tempe. Chapman Chevrolet, 1717 E. Baseline, on the corner of Rural Road and Baseline in Tempe, is about to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Back in 1966 Jerry Chapman founded the Chapman Automotive Group that is still run today by his sons John, Baxter, and Ted.

In 1966 the I-10/I-17 freeway was the only freeway in town (the Superstition Freeway was just a dream). Phoenix homes sold for less than $25,000 and The Phoenix Suns were still two years away from playing their first professional game. America was still in the race to be the first to put a man on the moon. Over the decades Tempe and the whole East Valley exploded in growth. New home subdivisions replaced farms, shopping malls sprang like mushrooms on nearly every major intersection, professional sports teams found a home in the Valley and freeways outstretched across the open desert. In the past 40 years over two million people moved into the greater Phoenix metro area to call The Valley of the Sun home.

Chapman Chevrolet was located in the heart of all this growth. Today Chapman Chevrolet is recognized as the 25th largest Chevrolet dealer in sales all across the country. With an average of over 5,000 vehicles sold each year since 2004, Chapman-Isuzu is propelling its sales success story into the 21st century.

On Thursday, March 22nd, Chapman Chevrolet-Isuzu will be recognized by the Tempe Chamber of Commerce with a mixer. And at 5pm on the 22nd, owner John Chapman, General Manager Jesse MacMahan and CEO of Chapman Automotive Group, Eddie Davault will perform a ribbon cutting ceremony.

1966; the first half of the baby boomers were nervously getting their driver’s permits, it’s the year the Baltimore Orioles won the World Series, the year Star Trek began its first season on TV, and the year John Chapman ventured out into the world to start his first car dealership, Chapman Chevrolet. Forty years later Chapman Chevrolet has become an integral part of the East Valley community. We’re all toasting that success! Chapman Chevrolet personnel would be happy to see you for your next car purchase. At Chapman, ‘just looking’ is ‘just fine’. You can also call Chapman at 480-838-0810.

A reminder that April 8th and 9th the AHDRA (All Harley Drag Racing Association) is coming to Phoenix Firebird Raceway.
