A new Sam’s Club in Chandler will celebrate its grand opening at 9:30 a.m. today and open to the public at 10 a.m. at 1375 S. Arizona Ave.

More than 135,000 square feet in size, the Valley’s newest Sam’s Club will feature a tire service area, one-hour photo, bakery, optical center, cafe, pharmacy, floral section, gasoline station and more than 4,000 items.

The new store employs 170 people

Another big, new East Valley employer, Amazing Jake’s Pizza Factory, the combo pizza buffet-amusement parkarcade scheduled to spring to life mid- to late-July at 1830 E. Baseline Road in Mesa, is hiring.

The theme park-pizza parlor already has about 280 people on board, but it needs nearly 100 more to fill empty slots from prep cook to arcade attendant, said general manager John Herman.

Applicants can pick up a form at the office in Suite 7, adjacent to the restaurant, or apply online at, he said.

Eatza Pizza opened its newest restaurant last weekend at 4910 E. Chandler Blvd. at the Foothills Vista Commons Shopping Center in Ahwatukee Foothills.

Eatza Pizza features an allyou-can-eat pizza, pasta, chicken, salad and dessert buffet.

Shoe shoppers mad about Baudine’s should know that Baudine’s Mad About Shoes is doing just fine, despite some confusion about store closings, said owner Bob Houk.

Houk at one time had two stores at The Borgata, Scottsdale Road and Rose Lane in Scottsdale. He sold one — Baudine’s Walk in Comfort — more than a year ago. The new owner closed that store a month ago. Houk’s store remains open.

A Baudine’s Mad About Shoes at Paradise Valley Mall is scheduled to close this week. Houk said he signed a temporary short-term lease just to try out Baudine’s in a regional mall, but the concept didn’t fare as well as it does in specialty centers.

Houk said his two Scottsdale area stores — at The Borgata and at Biltmore Fashion Park, 24th Street and Camelback Road in east Phoenix — plus a third store in a Tucson shopping center are flourishing.
