Title: Program Administrator for the Valley of the Sun United Way

What are your main duties?

“I manage the Speakers Bureau as well as handle special projects such as the Loaned Executive program. During the annual campaign, I ensure that all of our community partners have the opportunity to tell the community how they positively impact our communities. I like to think of it as connecting our donors and corporate partners with the individuals who have been positively impacted by their investment in Valley of the Sun United Way. It provides a unique opportunity to see how they are improving lives and our community.”

Why did you make the change to nonprofit?

“I was in the corporate environment for many years and felt that I was missing something. I took that twenty years of valuable experience and knew that I could put it to good use helping others. What I enjoy most is seeing the human success stories. Knowing that everyday when you go to work you will make a difference in someone's life makes everyday worthwhile.”

Any advice for someone considering this field?

“If you are considering a job in this field, I suggest that you get involved with a nonprofit prior to leaving your current position. Find a nonprofit that helps with a cause that you are passionate about. Volunteer for the board or just to help out as needed. This will give you a good perspective on what the culture of the organization is like and as to whether it will be a good fit for you. Then when you find the right organization be relentless. Do not give in. Network your heart out and go for it.”
