East Valley drivers saw gas prices jump more than 10 cents in the last week to $3.677, according to AAA Arizona.
Arizona drivers are paying the highest fuel prices ever recorded in a September, with the statewide average at $3.699.
Gas prices have climbed more than 40 cents since early August, the press release states. Part of the blame is on Hurricane Isaac, which cut production in half in the Gulf of Mexico. Refineries are still coming back online, the release states.
“Over the last five weeks, Arizona motorists have seen the cost of fuel surge to start September at historic highs,” AAA Arizona spokeswoman Linda Gorman said in the release. “However, now that the summer driving season has ended, refineries are reopening, and the switch to our less expensive winter blend of fuel is approaching, the short-term outlook appears promising.”

I'm thinking it's more like 60 cents in 6 weeks!
